Health effects

Vitamin K was discovered from its vital importance for normal haemostasis. However, poor vitamin K status has also been associated with a number of other (mainly age-related) diseases.

  • Is required for normal haemostasis.

  • Decreases postmenopausal bone loss.

  • Prevents vascular calcification via improved MGP carboxylation.

  • Decreases risk for allograft failure after kidney transplantation.

  • Decreases thrombosis risk via improved protein S carboxylation.

  • Not yet confirmed: tumour risk reduction.
